Frigidaire Refrigerator Light Bulb Melted – Solved

Simply buy a new socket for the bulb and a new bulb, remove the old bulb with its socket, and fix the new socket and bulb. Remove the temperature control assembly with a small screwdriver, the flat blade type, so you can take the socket out.

To avoid this problem, use bulbs that are the correct wattage. Usually, the wattage should be 40, not more. Using a higher wattage causes too much heat which can melt the light socket or cause an explosion.

However, this may be a factory problem as there may not be enough insulation on the bulb’s base. If the bulb becomes hot, the base begins to melt and eventually causes the gas in the bulb to leak.

Duct tape may provide some insulation to prevent such issues. So try the type that is sticky on one side and silver on the other. Do not go for the fiber type.

Frigidaire Refrigerator Light Bulb Not Working – What to Do

If you find that the light bulb in your Frigidaire refrigerator is not working, do the following:

1. Check the Bulb

The bulb may have burned out. So, change the bulb and see what happens. If it works, you know the bulb alone was faulty. Do this before checking any other part.

2. Check the Light Socket

The light socket is the part to which you fix the bulb. Test it with a multimeter to determine whether or not it is receiving power.

If it is receiving power yet a good bulb doesn’t work on it, replace the socket. The same applies if it is not receiving power.

3. Check the Light Switch

Run a continuity test on the switch that controls the light bulb using a multimeter. If there is no continuity in the switch, replace it.

4. Check the Light Assembly

The entire assembly may be faulty, causing the bulb not to work. You may want to test individual parts but if you are going to replace any, you are going to replace the entire assembly. This is because you may not get individual replacement parts.

5. Check the Door Switch

The door switch determines whether or not the light stays on. When activated, the light bulb comes on. Check it for continuity using a multimeter. If you find no continuity even when it is activated, replace the switch.

You may also want to check the light board. It controls how the light in the refrigerator works. See if it is receiving enough voltage. If it is and no other part of the light assembly is defective, consider replacing the board.

Don’t replace it if you are not sure. Hire a qualified service agent to check the board to determine if it needs a replacement.

What Kind of Light Bulb Goes for a Frigidaire Refrigerator?

A 40-watts light bulb is ideal for a Frigidaire refrigerator. The user manual for the unit details what wattage to use and how to fix the light bulb. If you use a wattage higher than the recommended one, it creates a fire hazard.
