Where Is the Reset Button on a Samsung Ice Maker?

The reset button on a Samsung ice maker is usually on the side or on the bottom of the machine. The button is the same as the Test button, and you will have to remove the ice storage bucket to see or reach it. Check the user manual for steps to use the reset button and how long you should press it for the ice maker to reset.

How to Reset a Samsung Refrigerator Ice Maker

To reset a Samsung refrigerator ice maker, do the following:

Step 1

Take out the ice bucket to be able to see the ice maker clearly.

Step 2

Find the test or reset button close to the ice maker’s front, on the bottom or on the side. It is rectangular in shape.

Step 3

Press the button and hold it until a chime sounds, indicating that the ice maker is resetting.

Step 4

Put back the ice bucket you removed earlier so that if there is any ice in the ice maker, it will dump inside it and not on the floor.

For a french door model with two ice makers or without a dispenser…

Press the reset button and hold it until the motor of the ice tray begins to torque. Then, release the button.

For a french door model with a heated tray…

Release the ice bucket and pull it out. Then press the reset button, on the ice maker’s right side, and hold it. A chime will sound to indicate that the reset has started for newer models. But for older models, hold the reset button for about 10 seconds. This resets the ice maker.

For a bottom mount refrigerator model…

Press the reset button, applying some pressure, and hold it. You should hear the motor of the ice tray begin to torque before releasing the button.

For an ice maker in the fridge or in a side-by-side freezer…

Gently and slowly lift the ice bucket out of the unit to reveal the ice maker. Find the reset or Test button on the ice maker’s right side. Next, press it and hold it until a chime sounds. This shows that the reset or test has begun.

Reinsert the ice bucket so that any leftover ice can dump into it. You should hear it lock in place when you insert it.

Note: If there is no chime but there is movement in the ice maker, it means the reset was successful. But if there is no chime and no movement in the ice maker, unplug the unit for about 2 minutes and plug it back. Then try the reset process again.

For an ice maker on the back of the freezer door…

Take out the ice bucket. For older models, there is only the cover of the ice maker to take out of the way. So lift the cover and slowly pull it out with your hands in the hand grips.

For newer models, there is an ice bucket. Grab the handle on its side and take the ice bucket out of the way.

With the cover or ice bucket out of the way, press the Test or reset button which is on the bottom left side of the ice maker. Hold it until there is a chime.

Reinsert the cover of the ice maker and position it until it clicks into place. For the ice bucket, reinsert it until it locks in place. The refrigerator will alert you with the Ice Off icon flashing, or in some other way depending on the model you own if you don’t insert the bucket correctly.

Note: Older models have the test or reset button on the front left side of the ice maker, not on the bottom. If there is no chime but there is movement in the ice maker when you press the button, it means the reset was successful. But if there is no chime and no movement in the ice maker, unplug the unit for about 2 minutes and plug it back in. Then try the reset process again.

For a bottom freezer ice maker…

Take the ice maker bucket out of the way by lifting it up gently and pulling it out. Find the reset button on the ice maker’s button, towards the front. Press the button and hold it until there is a chime.

If the ice maker is in proper working order, there will be a second chime. However, if the chime sounds repeatedly, something is wrong. Contact Samsung to request service.

Reinsert the bucket properly when the reset process is done.

Note: If there is no chime but there is movement in the ice maker, it means the reset was successful. But if there is no chime and no movement in the ice maker, unplug the unit for about 2 minutes and plug it back. Then try the reset process again.

For a top freezer ice maker…

Take the ice bucket out of the way. It is usually under the ice maker so simply put it out from under it. Press the test switch and hold it until there is a chime. This is an indication that the reset or test has begun. Next, slide the bucket back in place under the ice maker.

Note: If there is no chime but there is movement in the ice maker, it means the reset was successful. But if there is no chime and no movement in the ice maker, unplug the unit for about 2 minutes and plug it back. Then try the reset process again.

It is important to avoid pressing the test or reset button repeatedly or resetting an ice maker twice in 24 hours. Doing any of these could damage the machine. That said, here’s how to reset your Samsung refrigerator if it’s the entire unit that has issues.

Samsung Ice Maker Reset Not Working – What to Do

Sometimes, resetting a Samsung ice maker does not work. If you find that your Samsung ice maker reset does not work, replace the water filter and change the auger motor. The auger motor turns the blades in the ice bucket to push the ice out of the dispenser. Test the motor to see if it is faulty because it can prevent the ice maker and other ice-making components to stop working.

Also, the water filter can restrict the free flow of clean water into the ice maker if it is clogged with dirt. If you have not replaced the water filter in the last six months, it explains the ice maker reset problem. Ensure you use the correct filter type for a Samsung refrigerator or ice maker to keep the machine in optimum working condition. Contact the Samsung Service Center to request a replacement ice maker or schedule service.
