How to Get a GE Refrigerator Out of Demo Mode

To get your GE refrigerator out of demo mode, take the following steps, according to the model you own.

Bottom Freezer Models

Press the Precise Fill and Control Lock button and hold them for about 3 seconds. This will get it out of demo mode.

If your model does not have these buttons, then press the crushed ice, freezer, and refrigerator buttons. Hold all three buttons at the same time for about 3 seconds.

Now, if your model still has none of these or they don’t apply, find the freezer and fresh food buttons.

Press the Freezer Up button and the Fresh Food Up button at the same time. Hold them for about 3 seconds to get the unit out of the mode. After this, you can unplug the unit and plug it back in.

Some models have buttons on the inside of the unit. So if your model doesn’t have any of these buttons on the door, look inside it for the Freezer and Refrigerator buttons.

Press both buttons on the inside of the refrigerator and hold them for about 3 seconds. This should deactivate or get the unit out of demo mode.

Non-Dispenser Models

For bottom freezer models with no dispenser, you don’t usually find a demo mode for them. However, you may have to turn the compressor off if you want to get them working again.

To do this, turn the temperature control dial down to 0. You can also opt to press the Freezer Warmer and Refrigerator Warmer buttons at the same time until you see 0 on the display to achieve the same result.

Another option is to turn the freezer and fresh food temperature settings to their warmest settings to turn off the compressor.

Older Models

And if the model has water and ice dispensers, press the Adjust Freezer and Energy Saver buttons at the same time. Hold them for about 3 seconds.

For a GE Profile bottom freezer model with water and ice dispensers, and LCD media center, go to Settings on the unit’s home screen and select it.

When it opens, tap the blank part you see on both sides of the column that appears. Tap it 7 times in quick succession.

Doing this will cause the Demo screen to appear so you can deactivate it. Once you get there, you will see an option to ‘Deactivate Demo Mode’. Select it.

But for a GE Profile bottom freezer with ice and water dispensers but without the LCD media center, simply turn the main switch of the refrigerator off. Wait about a minute before you turn it back on.

Note: Simply unplugging the refrigerator and plugging it back in does not get it out of demo mode. You must find the button combination to do this before unplugging it.

The Sabbath mode on a GE fridge is a way to help users who observe Jewish religious rules to keep the rules. Under the Jewish laws, you cannot perform any duty or do any work on the Sabbath day.

So GE has put Sabbath Mode features tailored to fit these laws. This way, such users can still use a refrigerator without having to do any work that will break their laws. The same applies to other GE appliances apart from the refrigerator.

How to Activate the Sabbath Mode

Consult the instructions or user manual for steps to activate the Sabbath mode. However, this mode will cause the refrigerator to enter a defrost cycle that is timed. It will also turn the control panel, dispenser, and ice maker off.

If you would like your refrigerator to automatically go into the Sabbath mode and exit it, consider buying the device called the Shabbos Keeper.

It works with all the refrigerator models that come with the Sabbath Mode feature. You don’t have to do anything manually once you activate it.
