One of the best things to happen in refrigeration is ice makers. You will appreciate them when you need ice after a day out in the sun. But if your ice maker is leaking, it can be a mess.
Refrigerator Leaking from Ice Maker – What to Do
If you find that the ice maker in your refrigerator is leaking, do the following:
1. Check Ice Jam
The ice maker may have an ice jam, thereby becoming unable to dispense it. The longer it stays, the more it melts as the ice maker’s heating element comes on during the ice-making cycle. Remove the ice bucket and check to see if it is full. Empty it, turn off the ice maker, and turn it back on again. Then, put the ice bucket back under the ice maker and wait for the machine to produce ice.
If that does not fix the problem, check the ice dispenser. There may be ice jammed inside it and melting. Put a bowl under the dispenser and pour warm water down the dispenser’s chute. Depress the dispenser’s lever to see if the ice has melted. You may have to repeat the process a few times before the ice dislodges.
Also, try to break any ice fragments in the chute with a wooden or plastic spatula. When you believe you have reached all the ice, push the dispenser to see if ice freely drops into the bowl.
2. Check Water Supply Line
The water supply line that feeds water to the ice maker may be loose or broken. Take a look at the connection points to ensure they are tight. You may have to tighten them if you notice any looseness. Then, check the line for kinks or twists. Straighten the line and see if it is broken at any point. If it is, replace the water line.
3. Check the Leveling
Use a bubble or leveling gauge to check the leveling of the refrigerator. If it has incorrect leveling, it will affect the ice maker and other parts. Finally, check the ice maker compartment and the ice maker itself. If the compartment has cracks, it will let warm air into and freeze the ice maker. The same applies if the ice maker is damaged.
Ice Maker Line Leaking at Connection – Quick Fix
Do the following if you find that your ice maker’s water supply line is leaking at the connection point:
Disconnect the refrigerator from electric power. If you cannot easily reach the power cord, turn the circuit breaker off. Move the refrigerator and turn the water to the ice maker off. You will find the shut-off valve either under the sink or at the back of the unit.
Next, check the connection point at the water inlet valve. The compression nut may be loose or weak. Try tightening it to the inlet valve, then dry off the water there. Go to the connection at the shut-off valve and tighten the nut there.
Turn the water supply back on and wait for more leakage. If the leakage stops, you are good to go. But if the ice maker line continues to leak at any of the points, you may have to replace the compression nut or the water supply line. Be sure to buy the water line using the sample of the old one.

Ice Maker Leaking and Not Making Ice – What to Do
To find out why your ice maker is leaking and not making ice, first, check whether or not it is on. Take a look at the power switch and feeler arm. You may have accidentally turned the switch off when rummaging in the freezer.
