How to Fix a Kenmore Refrigerator Door Handle – Quick Guide
To begin, open the door of the refrigerator and check the screws holding the handle. Typically, two set screws hold it in place on the door.
Use a screwdriver to loosen the screw at the bottom of the handle, turning it counterclockwise. There is no need to remove the screw completely; loosen it just enough for the head to be visible. Do the same for the screw at the top.
Next, lift the handle off the mounting fasteners and set it aside. Take the new door handle and mount it onto the fasteners, with the screws facing you.
Make sure the handle is balanced before you tighten the set screws. Turn the screws clockwise, one screw at a time until they are tight. Jiggle the handle to be sure it is not shaking or loose in any way.
If you have to fix the handle on the other door, follow the same steps.

Some Kenmore refrigerator door handles don’t have visible screws. In such a case, removing the handle means pushing it up with some force so it comes off the mounting fasteners. To fix it back, position it on the fasteners and push down on it with some force.
Kenmore Refrigerator Door Handle Loose – Quick Fix
Find the mounting set screws on the handle, at the top and bottom. They should be on the side facing you. Use a screwdriver to tighten the screws and afterward, jiggle the handle to check for looseness.
If the handle has no visible screws, push up on the handle with some force and remove it. You will see some screws on the mounting studs that may be loose. Tighten them and fix the handle back.
How to Reverse a Kenmore Refrigerator Door Handle
To reverse or switch the door handle of a Kenmore refrigerator from one side to the opposite side, loosen the screws holding it in place and remove it from the door.
Next, find the screw holes on the other side of the door with caps covering them. Pry the caps off and reveal the holes. Take the handle and position the screw holes on it over the holes on the door. Fix the screws into the holes to hold the handle to the door.
The mounting plug that holds the bottom part of the handle to the door can fix on the other side without a screw. So just remove it and transfer it to the other side of the door. There, the bottom of the handle mounts.
This works for a Kenmore top freezer refrigerator.
However, for a side-by-side or french door model, it is much easier to switch or reverse the handles. The spaces and holes are already the same so just take the one handle and move it to the other door and vice versa.
