What to Do If Your Neff Fridge Not is Cooling

If your Neff fridge is not cooling properly or not cooling at all, the following actions might be helpful:

1. Ensure the Fridge is Receiving Adequate Power Supply

The first thing to do when you notice your Neff fridge is not cooling is to examine its power cord. If the power cord is loosely plugged in to the power outlet, it won’t be able to transmit power to the fridge.

Open the door of your fridge, and if the internal bulb lights up, then there’s an adequate supply of power. You can then move to the next component to troubleshoot. However, it the internal bulbs fail to light up, plug in the power cord and examine the bulb again.

If the bulb still fails to light up, switch on the flipped breaker if need be.

2. Examine the Fridge Thermostat

The optimum temperature of the Neff fridge is usually preset by the manufacturer at around 35 to 37 degrees Fahrenheit. At this temperature, the fridge will remain cool to preserve perishable food items.

If your fridge is overstocked, the chances are high that a food item might turn the internal thermostat dial and change the temperature to something unsuitable. Also, the external thermostats can be mistakenly turned upon contact with the body.

But since the external thermostat dial is placed in a closed compartment, you do not have to worry about it turning. If the internal thermostat dial was changed, reset it to the optimal temperature.

If the optimal temperature does not cool the fridge, you can get a new one and install it by yourself following the steps on the user’s guide provided by the manufacturer.

3. Inspect the Door Seals

The magnetic door seals or door gaskets of the Neff fridge are fitted at the edge of the door to prevent cold air from escaping from the fridge. Since cold air cannot escape, it cools the fridge.

However, the door seals may become a little brittle with time, and that may reduce their capacity to prevent cold air from escaping. To know if the door seals are still intact, place a piece of paper in the door way and close it.

Now, try pulling out the piece of paper. If you notice any resistance, the door seals are still good. However, if the paper slips out without any resistance you have to consider replacing the door seals. Replacing the door seals of a fridge is an easy task, so you do not have to hire a technician.

The owner’s manual contains step-by-step instructions on how to replace the door seals.

4. Inspect the Level of the Fridge

If your Neff fridge is not leveled, it will allow cold air to leak, thereby preventing cooling. In addition, an unleveled fridge will fail the magnetic door seal test because the doors won’t seal tightly.

To know if your Neff fridge is well aligned, place a leveling device on the fridge’s top. If the liquid dial in the leveling device is not at the center, then the fridge is not well aligned. To properly level your fridge, adjust the legs until the liquid dial of the leveling device is at the center.

You can use an adjustable plier or a hex wrench to adjust the legs of your fridge.

5. Check If the Condenser Coils are Dirty

The condenser coils of a fridge contain refrigerant, which aids cooling. Over time, the condenser coils are not sealed away, so they tend to be covered in dirt, which minimizes their cooling ability.

If you have used your fridge for at least six months, the chances are high that they are now covered in dirt. You need a condenser brush and a vacuum cleaner to get rid of the dirt. Clean the condenser coils of your fridge at least twice a year, so they do not become defective.

6. Ensure the Air Vent is Unblocked

The air vents or ducts allow cold air to circulate throughout the fridge. If the air vents are blocked by foodstuffs, the temperature of the fridge will rise and cooling will take longer than expected.

The air vents of the Neff fridge can be found along the inside wall. The user’s manual will help you locate the air vents and how to unblock them. While you have to preserve your perishable food items in your fridge, ensure that they are not blocking the air vents.

Apart from food items, frost can also clog the air vents of your fridge. To unclog the air vent, turn off and open the door of the fridge and wait for some hours for the frost to thaw. Once that is done, turn on the fridge and observe the cooling condition for about 24 hours.

If the air vents were the source of the cooling problem, the fridge will be working properly now.

7. Call a Repairman

If you have tried everything we mentioned above and your fridge is still not cooling, the issue might be a faulty mechanical component, which only an expert can fix.

While you can fix or replace some not too technical components, others like the compressor and the condenser fan motor can be quite tricky. It is better for you a technician than attempt to repair or replace faulty components by yourself. You may only end wasting your time and energy and making the situation worse. Final Notes

Repairing a fridge that is not cooling is a more cost-effective thing to do than getting a new one. Troubleshoot the different components of the fridge to locate the source of the cooling problem. If it is a bit too technical for you to do, you can hire a professional to help you out.
