Like most refrigerators, a Kenmore refrigerator control governs most refrigerator functions. But if there are problems, the refrigerator won’t work as it should.

Where Is the Damper Control on a Kenmore Refrigerator?

The damper control is located between the freezer and the refrigerator. Typically, it is at the top back panel, close to the top.

Kenmore Refrigerator Control Board Reset

To reset the control board on a Kenmore refrigerator, open one of the refrigerator’s doors. Press the Home and Ultra Ice buttons at the same time. Hold them for about five seconds to turn the controls off.

Next, disconnect the refrigerator from electric power and reconnect it again. Going through this process resets the refrigerator’s control board.

Kenmore Refrigerator Control Board Replacement

To replace the control board on a Kenmore refrigerator, take the following steps:

Step 1

Disconnect the refrigerator from electric power or shut off the circuit breaker. You don’t have to remove any frozen foods because the unit won’t stay off for more than an hour.

But if you would rather keep the food in a cold environment, find another refrigerator or an ice-packed cooler. Afterward, pull the unit away from the wall behind to create access to the control board.

Step 2

There is a cover over the control board. The board may be in the ceiling or a side wall inside the uni for some models.

When you find the board using the user manual, unthread the screws holding the cover in place over it. Then, set it aside.

Step 3

Take photos of the wire connections before disconnecting any of them. Then, disconnect them; how you disconnect the wires will depend on the type of Kenmore refrigerator you own. You may have to release a tab or pry the connectors off.

Step 4

You will find locking tabs on the sides of the control board. Release the tabs so you can pull off the old control board.

Put the new control board in the place of the old one and start reconnecting the wires. It is at this point that you are going to need the photos of the connections you took earlier.

Reduce static discharge by wearing a ground strap or touching the metal cabinet. Otherwise, the discharge may destroy the new board.

Replace the cover of the control board, making sure to set the screws in place and tighten them securely. Then, reconnect the refrigerator to electric power.

Note: These steps apply to side-by-side, bottom freezer, and top-freezer Kenmore refrigerators.
