Amana Refrigerator Fan Not Working — Test/Replace Condenser Fan Motor

Follow the steps below to test/replace the condenser fan motor in your Amana refrigerator…

Step 1. In order to prevent any chances of electrocution and leakage, it is advised that you disconnect your refrigerator from the power outlet and turn the water faucet off before starting this repair.

Step 2. Using a socket wrench, loosen the bolt at the back of the appliance securing the water supply line to the inlet valve.

Step 3. Disconnect the water line from the inlet valve (you may want to keep a towel nearby to clean any leaks). Take out the nuts holding the water line retainers to the rear panel.

Step 4. Loosen the nuts holding the lower rear access panel to the refrigerator using a 1/4 inch nut-driver.

Step 5.Pull the panel off the machine, then slide the power cord retainer out of the slot.

Step 6. Detach the electrical connector from the water inlet valve on the rear panel, then move the panel aside.

Step 7. Reach into the appliance, then carefully pull the fan blade off the shaft of the condenser fan motor.

Step 8. Detach the wire connector from the condenser fan using a small flat-blade screwdriver.

Step 9. With a 5/16 inch nut-driver, loosen the bolts holding the fan motor to the mount. Pull the condenser fan motor out of the machine.

Step 10. Get a digital multimeter, then turn the dial to the ‘Ohms’ setting. Push the probes of the multimeter into the terminals on the fan motor.

Step 11. If the multimeter reads more than 1 ohm, it indicates that the condenser fan motor is damaged and needs to be replaced.

Step 12. Once you’ve confirmed that the condenser fan motor is damaged, it’s time to install the new one.

Step 13. Take the new fan motor out of its packaging, then place it on the mount in the refrigerator. Secure the new motor by applying the 5/16 inch bolts.

Step 14. Slide the fan onto the new motor shaft, then plug the power connector into the motor.

Step 17. Connect the water supply line to the inlet valve, then secure the nut with your socket wrench. Secure the retainers holding the water line to the rear panel using a nut-driver.

Step 18. Turn the water supply faucet back on, then reconnect your appliance to the electrical outlet to see if the problem has been fixed.
