Where Is the Thermostat on a Maytag Refrigerator?

The thermostat in a Maytag refrigerator is found on the control panel inside the unit, in the fresh food compartment. Open the compartment and locate the panel; you may have to empty the top shelf in the refrigerator to have better access.

You will have to loosen and dismantle the control panel to find the thermostat. You may also find it under the refrigerator or on its back, depending on the model and type. Consult the user manual for the actual location. Also, ensure you turn off the refrigerator by unplugging it from the wall outlet or shutting off the circuit breaker.

Maytag Refrigerator Thermostat Testing

Once you find the thermostat in your Maytag refrigerator, with the refrigerator without electric power, turn the thermostat to the coldest temperature setting. Next, get a multimeter and set it to R X 1; place the multimeter’s probes on the terminals on the thermostat.

Now, check the display on the multimeter; you should see 0 if the thermostat is in good working condition. If the multimeter does not read 0, it may indicate the thermostat is defective. Since you cannot repair it, the only solution is to get a replacement thermostat.

You should get an infinity reading from the thermostat if it is in good working condition. If you do, you are good to go, but if not, you need a new thermostat. You can check out this article on how to test a refrigerator thermostat for more details.
