Kenwood Fridge Freezer Not Freezing – How to Fix
Check the following fridge freezer parts for faults if your Kenwood fridge freezer is not freezing:
1. Evaporator Fan Motor
When you open the door of the freezer, the motor of the fan stops running and the fan goes off. But when you activate the door switch, the motor starts running again, despite the door still being open.
So when you open the door and activate the switch yet the motor doesn’t run, then you know it is faulty. Replace the motor as soon as possible.
The cold air that flows around the freezer is made possible by the evaporator fan. The freezer won’t cool or even freeze if the fan does not work. So if the motor is faulty, the fan cannot work.
2. Temperature Control Thermostat
Turn the thermostat to the highest temperature setting from the lowest and listen to hear a click. If you hear the click, then you know that the thermostat is working fine. But if you don’t hear the click, the thermostat is likely defective. Test it using a multimeter to be sure. If there is no continuity, no matter the temperature setting, replace the thermostat.
The refrigerant won’t get the power to cool the freezer if the thermostat is defective. This is because a defective thermostat cannot supply voltage to the compressor and motors of the two fans so that they can help the refrigerant run. And if the refrigerant doesn’t run, the freezer won’t cool.
3. Evaporator Coils
Open the inside back panel of the freezer to view the coils. If there is frost on them, then defrost the freezer manually to thaw the frost. Unplug the freezer and remove every item inside it. Preserve the food items in another freezer or in a cooler. Leave the door of the freezer open, place towels or rags around the edge and a tray to catch dripping water.
Give the freezer about 24 hours to fully defrost; the frost on the coils will fully defrost, too. Clean the freezer to remove any residue and leave it completely dry. Plug it back in and give it time to cool. This way, you can tell if the coils were causing the freezing problem.
The cooling coils cool the air that the fan takes over them before circulating it in the freezer. If frost accumulates on them, they won’t be able to perform their duty. Consequently, the freezer won’t cool or freeze.
4. Start Relay
Detach the start relay from the compressor and test it between the two terminals to check for continuity. If there is no continuity, replace the relay. And if the relay has a burnt smell, replace it.
The start relay makes sure the compressor runs by providing the needed power. If it is faulty, there is a high chance the compressor won’t run or if it runs, only intermittently. And if the compressor doesn’t run smoothly when it should, the freezer won’t freeze.
5. Condenser Coils
Check the coils behind or under the freezer to see if they are dirty. Clean them thoroughly if they are so that they can efficiently remove the heat from the freezer. Be sure to clean the coils regularly, especially if you have never cleaned them before. This way, they can perform optimally.
6. Condenser Fan Motor
Try spinning the blades of the fan to see if they spin freely. If they don’t, it is likely that the bearings of the motor of the fan are worn out. So, replace the motor. But if they spin freely and no external object or debris is keeping them from spinning, then test the motor using a multimeter to check for continuity. If there is no continuity, replace the condenser fan motor.
The fan passes air through the condenser and takes it over the coils. If the motor is faulty, the fan won’t operate and the unit is likely not to cool.
Run a test on the compressor or the man control to check for faults if nothing else seems to be faulty. There is also the user control and display board to check along with the other parts. It is unlikely that any of these 3 parts is the cause of the freezing problem but test them to cover all the bases.
When all else fails, check the sealed system of the freezer. If there is a leak in the system, it can cause the freezer not to cool or freeze. However, you cannot check this yourself; only a qualified refrigerator technician or the manufacturing brand can ascertain this.

1. Check Temperature
