Panasonic Fridge Freezer Not Freezing – How to Fix
If you find that your Panasonic fridge freezer is not freezing, here are the steps to take:
1. Check the Evaporator Fan Motor
The cold air you feel in the freezer comes from the oscillation of the evaporator fan. If the motor of the fan is faulty, the fan will not be able to draw air over the cooling coils and spread it in the freezer.
So, to check if the motor of the fan is faulty, open the door of the freezer. The fan should stop running immediately you open the door. This is normal. But as soon as you activate the switch of the freezer door, the fan will start running again.
However, if you activate the switch and the fan doesn’t start running, you know that the motor is faulty. Replace it as soon as possible.
2. Check the Condenser Coils
If the coils are dirty, they will not be able to release the heat from the unit. As a result, the unit will heat up and be unable to cool as it should.
Clean the condenser coils; give detailed attention to them so that you will clean every dust and debris. Ensure you clean them as regularly as possible, at least every six months.
3. Check the Evaporator Coils
The evaporator coils will be unable to release cold air for the fan to circulate in the freezer if they have a frost buildup on them. Consequently, there won’t be enough cold air in the freezer to cool it or freeze it.
Check the coils, which are usually behind the inside back panel of the freezer, to see if there is a frost buildup on them. If there is, thaw the frost using a hair dryer or by manually defrosting the freezer.
To defrost the freezer manually, remove every item in it and unplug it for some hours. This will make all the ice in the freezer to melt and also take care of the frost buildup on the evaporator coils.
However, you also need to check the defrost components of the freezer if it normally defrosts automatically or is a frost-free freezer.
4. Check the Start Relay
The small start relay provides enough power for the compressor to run. Without it, it is highly unlikely the compressor will run. Even if it runs, it may run only within brief periods.
Therefore, test the continuity of the start relay using a multimeter. Test it between its run and start terminals. If there is no continuity or there is a burnt smell coming from it, replace the relay as soon as possible.
5. Check the Condenser Fan Motor
The unit is likely not to cool if the fan is not running. And the condenser won’t run if the motor of the fan is faulty.
The blades of the fan should spin without a hitch if the motor of the fan is in good condition. So try to spin them. If they don’t turn freely, then you know that the bearings of the motor are all worn out. The motor needs to be changed.
But if the blades turn freely, test the motor with a multimeter to check for continuity. If there is no continuity, replace the motor of the fan.

6. Check the Temperature Control Thermostat
The motors of the fans and the compressor get voltage from the temperature control thermostat. If it is not functioning properly, the refrigerant won’t run and as a result, the freezer will not get cold.
Rotate the temperature control thermostat from low to high and listen to hear a click. If the clicking sound comes, then the thermostat is likely not faulty.
But if the clicking sound doesn’t come, test the thermostat with a multimeter for continuity. If you don’t find continuity, replace the temperature control thermostat.
The user control and display board or the compressor could also lead to a lack of freezing in the freezer. Additionally, a burnt main control board can lead to the freezer not working as it should. Finally, a leak in the sealed system of the freezer can cause a freezing problem, where the cold air leaks out quickly. This is truer if some parts of the freeze don’t freeze anymore while others do.
