Daewoo Refrigerator Not Cooling – Quick Fix

To fix a Daewoo refrigerator that is not cooling, check the following parts and change those that are faulty:

1. Refrigerator’s Evaporator Fan Motor

To check if the fan motor is bad, try to turn the blades manually. If they turn, the motor is probably alright. But if they don’t, the motor needs replacement.

Apart from this, check the motor by listening for any strange noise. This means it is bad. Additionally, test its windings for continuity using a multimeter. If you get no reading, the motor is bad.

Without the evaporator fan, the evaporator coils will not cool and there will be no cool air in the refrigerator.

2. Refrigerator’s Condenser Fan Motor

Check the fan blades first. Remove anything that is keeping them from spinning. Then, clean them well. If the fan still doesn’t work after you do this, try and spin the blades with your hand. If there is any restriction, the motor is bad. But if there is none, test the motor with a multimeter for continuity and if there is no continuity, change the motor.

3. Refrigerator’s Condenser Coils

Take a look at the coils under the refrigerator. If they are dirty, they will not be able to remove the heat from the unit, leaving it warm. Clean them with a vacuum and dust them thoroughly. Remember to do this every 5 to 6 months.

Refrigerator’s Start Relay

Test the relay between the start and run terminals for continuity. If you find none, then the relay needs to be changed. Additionally, if there is a burnt smell from the relay or you shake it and you hear a rattle, replace it because it is bad.

Without the relay, the compressor will not run efficiently. Consequently, the refrigerator will not function well.

4. Refrigerator’s Start Capacitor

Change the capacitor if you test it with a multimeter and you find no continuity. It is important you change it because the compressor will find it hard to start if the capacitor is faulty.

5. Refrigerator’s Thermistor

Be sure the resistance of the thermistor changes with the temperature of the refrigerator when you test it with a multimeter. If you don’t find this change, the thermistor is bad. And if the thermistor is bad, the control board won’t be able to regulate power to the evaporator fan and the compressor. So the refrigerator will not run nor cool.

6. Refrigerator’s Evaporator Coils

When the evaporator coils have frost on them, the refrigerator will not cool. This part of the refrigerator is behind the back panel inside the freezer section of the refrigerator. More times than not, frosted evaporator coils affect the coolness of the refrigerator because the cold air from them are restricted.

Defrost the frost by leaving the refrigerator unplugged for some hours or overnight. However, get a professional to check the unit’s defrost system because the frost is not supposed to build on the coils. But since it has, it means some part of the system is faulty – the heater, the timer or the control board.

7. Refrigerator’s Thermostat

Rotate the dial of the thermostat in the unit from the lowest point to the highest point. When you get to the highest, you should hear a click. If you don’t hear this click, the thermostat has become defective and must be replaced.

When the thermostat is defective, the refrigerant will not run the way it should. This is because it will not be able to move voltage to the evaporator fan motor and the compressor.

You can contact a professional repairer to come over and check the temperature control board, the compressor or the motherboard if the cooling problem continues after fixing the parts listed above.

Fixing one or more of these parts will take care of a Daewoo refrigerator that is not cooling. It will also take care of any cooling problem in a fridge freezer, a mini fridge or a wine fridge along with specific models of Daewoo refrigerator.
