How to Turn On a Samsung Fridge after Power Outage

To turn a Samsung fridge after a power outage, press the Power Cool and the Power Freeze button simultaneously. Hold them for about 8 seconds until there is a chime.

The error code flashing on the display will disappear and the fridge’s temperature settings will appear in its place.

It is important to note here that the combination of buttons to press for this purpose differs from one fridge model to the next. So if the combination above does not work for your model, try pressing the Lighting and Power Save buttons or the Freezer and Fridge buttons simultaneously for about 8 to 10 seconds.

However, if none of the combinations works, consult the user manual of the Samsung fridge to determine how to fix the power outage issue with the fridge. You can also contact Samsung to report the issue and get professional assistance.

This video is a visual representation of how to turn on a Samsung refrigerator after a power outage. Do note, though, that this is model-specific but the basics are the same…

How to Turn on a Samsung Refrigerator after Defrosting

To turn on a Samsung refrigerator after defrosting, simply plug it back into the wall outlet if you unplugged it earlier. That is if you manually defrosted the refrigerator. If you did not unplug it but shut off the circuit breaker, turn it back on.

Some units have a power button inside them. Therefore, check to see if your unit has one and press it until the light inside turns on. This is another way to turn the refrigerator on.

But if the refrigerator is not working or cooling after the defrost cycle and you want to reset it, press the Power Cool and Power Freeze buttons at the same time and hold them for about 8 seconds. The sound of a chime will alert you on when to let it go.

This works for most models but if your model does not have these buttons, press the Freezer and Fridge buttons or the Lighting and Power Save buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds.

Some Samsung refrigerator models have reset buttons. To know if yours has one, inspect the top part of the door of the refrigerator. There should be a panel that flips up with a reset button under it. Press it to reset the unit.

We have an extensive article on how to reset your Samsung refrigerator if you want even more details on the subject.

Hard Reset

However, if this does not turn the refrigerator back on after defrosting, try doing a hard reset. Press the power button in the interior part of the refrigerator if there is one. If there isn’t, just unplug the unit from the wall outlet. If you cannot reach the outlet, shut the circuit breaker down.

Leave it without power for about 10 minutes. Then, plug it back in or turn on the circuit breaker and press the power button to turn it on again. Doing this should fix the problem.

It is important to note here that most Samsung refrigerators defrost automatically and don’t need to be turned on manually after the defrost cycle.

Samsung Refrigerator Will Not Turn On – Quick Fix

If your Samsung refrigerator will not turn on, check to see if it is in demo or showroom mode. This is especially true if it is a new unit.

If you are not sure if it is in this mode, check to see if the OF OF code shows on the display. This will tell you the refrigerator is in demo or showroom mode.

But whether the code shows or not, reset the refrigerator in this manner to see if it fixes the problem:

Step 1

Locate the Freezer and Power Freeze buttons on the control panel of your refrigerator.

Step 2

Press them simultaneously and hold them for about 5 seconds. This resets the refrigerator. You know this when the display goes to normal operations.

However, this is dependent on the model of the Samsung refrigerator you have. On some models, you have to press the Power Freeze and Energy Saver buttons. Hold them until there is an audible chime. This resets the unit.

On some others, press the 2 left-hand side buttons on the display panel. Hold them for about 5 seconds to reset the unit.
