There are 5 different water filter models for KitchenAid fridges. The following show how to use each model and where they are fixed in the refrigerators:

Model 1: EDR2RXD1

This will go in the KitchenAid model that has the water filter compartment in the upper right-hand side, inside the fridge.

Step 1: Open the door to the filter compartment and pull on the filter, turning it to the left as you do so. Throw it away. Take the new filter, remove the cover and O-rings protective coverings.

Step 2: Be sure the arrow points upwards before inserting it into the filter compartment. Close the door.

Step 3: Run water through it so that the new filter will be clean.

Model 2: EDR4RXD1

This model will go in the fridge model with the filter compartment on the right side of the roof.

Step 1: Open the door of the compartment by pulling on the visible lever.

Step 2: Turn the old filter to the left and pull it out. Throw it out.

Step 3: Put the new filter in the compartment, align it properly and push it in, turning it to the right as you do so. Be sure it locks in.

Step 4: Close the door of the compartment and run water through it to clean it out.

Model 3: EDR1RXD1

This model will go in the filter that is on the upper right hand side of the fridge

Step 1: Open the compartment door.

Step 2: Pull out the old filter and throw it away.

Step 3: Insert the new filter after removing the O-rings’ protective coverings. Be sure the arrow on the filter points up. If it doesn’t slide in freely, turn it until the grooves align.

Step 4: When you get it right, the compartment door will close on its own. But push it manually so it snaps shut.

Step 5: Run water through it until the new filter is thoroughly clean.

Model 4: EDR3RXD1

For this model, the filter compartment will be on the left side of the base grille of the fridge.

Step 1: Press the button on the door to eject the filter. Remove the black cap from it and throw away the old filter.

Step 2: Replace the blue cap on the new filter with the black one from the old filter. Make sure the O-rings remain intact after removing the blue cap.

Step 3: Put the new filter in, making sure the arrow points up. You will know it is fully in when the eject button pops out.

Step 4: Run water until the filter is clean.

Model 5: EDR5RXD1

The cartridge cap of the filter will be on the left side of the base grille of the refrigerator

Step 1: Turn the cap in a counterclockwise fashion until the handle becomes vertical. Pull the filter out then.

Step 2: Remove the cap of the filter by moving it from the top to the bottom of the filter. Slide it off, keep it and throw out the old filter.

Step 3: Take the new filter and slide in the old cap after removing the new cap and O-rings’ protective coverings.

Step 4: Keep the cap handle vertical and push the filter into its slot. Turn it until it is horizontal again.

Step 5: Run water to clean out the filter properly.

How to Reset Water Filter on KitchenAid Refrigerator

To reset the water filter of your KitchenAid refrigerator, hold down the button marked ‘filter reset’ for a few seconds. The water filter status light will go off once the fridge resets.

Another way to do this is to hold down the button marked ‘water filter’ for about 3 seconds. The ‘replace filter’ flashing on the display will vanish and the filter icon will turn blue again.

Additionally, you can press both the ‘max cool’ and ‘max ice’ buttons at the same time for about 3 seconds to reset the water filter. Once the display counts down from 3 to 1, the icon will flash and a toe will begin to play. Then, you know you are good to go.

How to Reset KitchenAid Refrigerator Compressor

To reset the compressor of a KitchenAid refrigerator:

1. Disconnect the refrigerator from the power source. Leave it disconnected for some minutes.

2. Inside the refrigerator, turn off the thermostat, which controls its coolness or warmness. It looks like a circular dial. Connect the refrigerator again to a power source.

3. Move the thermostat to the settings you want.
