Neff Refrigerator Leaking – Solutions

In this section, we will discuss the solutions to the issues responsible for your Neff refrigerator leaking water:

1. Unclog Blocked Drain

Most times when a Neff refrigerator begins to leak water, a blocked drain is usually the cause. You can solve this issue very easily.

Locate the drain hole of your refrigerator. In most cases, it is usually at the inside bottom of the refrigerator.

Then use a pipe cleaner to unclog the blockage by inserting it into the drain hole. And move it in and out for some time. Also, pour in hot water to help with the process.

If ice is the blockage, you could use a hand-dryer to defrost the ice.

Or you can turn off the refrigerator, open the door and allow it to defrost normally. You might need to leave it this way for about 24 hours. This option is best used if you don’t have food items currently in your refrigerator.

2. Inspect the Drain Pan

The drain pan temporarily stores water that is collected by the drain hole. The water collected here evaporates quickly as the condenser fan blows warm air over the pan.

If the drain pan is dirty, water on the pan might not evaporate as quickly as it should. Hence, the accumulated water will end up leaking out of the fridge. Apart from dirt, a cracked drain pan can cause water to leak out of the refrigerator.

Therefore, you need to inspect the drain pan to see which of these issues is responsible for your Neff refrigerator leaking.

To access the drain pan, you will need to remove the kick plate at the front bottom of the refrigerator. When you take out the drain pan you can then decide if you need to just clean it or get a new one.

3. Replace Damaged Water Line

We recommend this fix for folks whose Neff refrigerator has a water or ice dispenser. The water line is responsible for supplying the water that flows out of the dispenser’s tap. If for any reason it gets damaged, you’ll have on your hands a messy pool of water.

You can solve this issue by replacing the damaged water line. Don’t worry, you can do it yourself.

How to Replace Neff Refrigerator Water Line

The following steps will guide you on how to replace your Neff refrigerator water line:

Step 1: Unplug your Neff refrigerator from the electric outlet. You need to turn off the water supply as well.

Step 2: Move the refrigerator from the wall. This will allows you to see and reach the back of the refrigerator as you work on the water line. We recommend that you seek assistance from family or a friend to help you move the refrigerator.

Step 3: Take away the escutcheon so that you can get to the water line. You’ll need to remove the screws fastening the escutcheon.

Step 4: After that, locate the screws that attach the wire harness and loosen them.

Step 5: Next thing that needs to be removed is the dispenser assembly. You’ll also need to unfasten the screws holding it. Don’t forget to press the locking tab when removing it.

Step 6: Now that you have access to the water line, pull it from the spout using a needle-nose plier. You could use just your hands but it might be more difficult.

4. Check the Door Seal

The door seal also known as door gasket is the piece of elastic strip that is found on the outer edge of your refrigerator. The job of the door seal is to provide an air-tight seal that prevents warm air from entering the cool environment of the refrigerator. When warm air gets into a refrigerator, excessive condensation arises which might be the cause of your Neff refrigerator leaking.

Therefore, if the door seal becomes dirty as a result of debris/food accumulation or it gets damaged, this could be the reason for the leaking. Therefore, you need to check it carefully to find out what is wrong.

If it is just dirt, then you need to clean the door seal thoroughly. All you need to do is follow the steps below:

Step 1: Make a baking soda-water solution: Warm water (1 quart) and baking soda (1 tablespoon).

Step 2: Dampen a hand towel with the solution and clean the seal thoroughly. Make sure you reach every area even the hidden ones.

Step 3: Clean any residue of the solution found on the door seal. When you do this, you will prevent any dried solution from remaining stuck on the door seal which could pose a problem as well.

We advise that you do not use ammonia, petroleum distillates, or bleach to clean your door seal. They can easily damage it permanently.

If the issue with the door seal is that you discovered a tear, then you need to replace it.

Follow the steps below to replace the door seal of your Neff refrigerator:

Step 1: Peel the damaged door seal from the door. You can use a knife to cut it out if peeling it with your hands is difficult. However, be careful with the knife so that you don’t puncture the refrigerator in the process.

Step 2: Put the new seal into the hollow on the door until it is well-snug.
