Samsung Freezer Too Warm – Solutions

If a Samsung freezer is too warm, check the following for faults and replace any defective one:

1. Evaporator Fan Motor

Start by opening the door of the freezer and activating the door switch. If operating normally, the motor of the evaporator fan stops running when the door is opened. But the switch gets it running again with the door still open when activated.

However, replace the motor of the fan if it does not start running again even after activating the door switch. This is because the motor is bad.

Additionally, test the windings of the motor using a multimeter to check for continuity. If there is no continuity, replace the motor.

Without the evaporator fan, there will be no cold air circulating in the freezer. And the fan cannot work if the motor is bad. So the freezer will get warm over time.

2. Start Relay

Check the start relay by detaching it from the side of the compressor and testing it between its two terminals using a multimeter. If there is no continuity, replace the relay. And if there is a burnt odor or it rattles when shaken, replace it because it is damaged.

The relay enables the compressor to run when needed. But if it is damaged, the compressor may be unable to run at all. And if the compressor does not run, the freezer cannot operate.

3. Temperature Setting

Check the temperature setting to see if it is at the correct point. If your Samsung freezer is a chest type or has manual temperature control, turn the control to the highest number on the dial. That is the coldest point.

But if the freezer is part of a refrigerator and has digital control, press the freezer temperature button until it gets to 0, which is the correct point.

Setting the freezer higher than the recommended point makes the internal temperature high and the freezer to get warm. Therefore, leave the setting at 0 degrees Fahrenheit but if you have to take it higher, never exceed 5 degrees Fahrenheit.

4. Evaporator Coils

Check the coils behind the inside rear panel of the freezer. They should not have ice or frost on them to be able to function optimally. So if you find frost on them, melt the ice by manually defrosting the freezer.

Remove every item in the freezer and unplug it. Leave the door open and put towels around the edges of the freezer to absorb water from the melting frost.

Allow all the ice in the freezer to melt so that the frost on the coils will melt, too. Clean up the freezer to remove all moisture and allow it to air-dry completely before putting all the items back, closing the door and plugging it back in.

Another option is to use a hair dryer to melt the ice on the coils. However, this method can be dangerous so do it carefully.

Frost or ice on the evaporator coils means that the defrost system has failed. The defrost heater should turn on on a timer to warm the coils when the temperature reaches a certain point.

If this does not happen, the coils would get colder until frost starts accumulating on them. And when they are frozen, they cannot cool the air which the evaporator fan passes over them to circulate in the freezer. Consequently, the freezer will get warm.

Therefore, test the components of the defrost system to find out which of them is defective. It is most likely the defrost heater but it is best to check all, including the defrost control board.

5. Air Circulation

Ensure that the freezer is not so full as to cut off proper air circulation. If it is, reduce the contents and rearrange what is left to create space for air to flow freely. You will find that there is an even freezing pattern. But some items will freeze while others won’t if there are too many items in the freezer.

6. Condenser Coils

Clean the coils of the freezer if they are located outside. If they are within the walls of the freezer, there is no need to clean them.

Using a condenser brush or the brush head of a vacuum cleaner, wipe dust and debris from the coils. If there is grease on them, clean the grease using a soapy cloth until the coils are clean.

Be sure to inspect and clean the coils regularly, especially if there are hairy pets in the house, to keep them working well. Otherwise, heat from refrigeration will reduce the freezer’s capacity to cool and over time, it will become warm.

7. Door Seal

Check the seal around the door of the freezer to see if it is loose. If it is not, check to see if it is weak or damaged. Close the door of the freezer on a piece of paper or on a dollar bill. Try pulling it out without opening the door. If the paper or bill comes out easily, replace the seal because it is weak.

Additionally, clean the seal to remove dirt. Use warm soapy water to clean it until there is no dirt left. Be sure to clean it regularly because dirt keeps the seal from sealing the door tightly. As a result, the cold air seeps out and warm air seeps in, compromising the temperature inside.

You can also troubleshoot the compressor and the main control board, though they are rarely the reason for the freezer being too warm. However, there is a chance they are damaged or faulty, especially if other parts test fine.

Have a qualified and licensed technician to check the compressor. This is because it involves the use of voltage so it should not be tested by just anyone.

In addition, check the freezer’s sealed system. If there is a leak, get a licensed technician to verify it, replace the gas and seal the leak. The leak can cause the freezer to get warm.

Samsung Refrigerator Too Warm – What to Do

Check the following if your Samsung refrigerator is too warm:

1. Gasket

Replace the gasket around the door of the refrigerator if it is loose, worn or weak. Check it by passing your hand up and down the length of the door when it is closed to see if you feel even the slightest cool air coming out.

You can also try pulling out a dollar bill after closing the door of the unit on it. A tightly sealed door won’t allow you to pull it out without opening the door. So if you pull it out, replace the gasket.

2. Evaporator Fan Motor

Turn the blades of the fan to see if they spin well. If they don’t, the motor is likely defective so replace it. And if the motor makes more noise than usual, replace it because something is broken.

However, if the motor of the fan does not function at all, test its motor windings to check for continuity. If there is no continuity in the windings, replace the motor.

The fan is responsible for the cold air in the refrigerator. It passes air over the cooling coils and spreads the cold air inside the unit. So if the motor is bad, the refrigerator will not cool and will grow too warm over time.

3. Evaporator Coils

Check the coils behind the wall of the freezer section to see if they are frozen if you find that your Samsung refrigerator is too warm. If they are, melt the ice by unplugging the unit and leaving the door open for some hours. This is after removing the food in it and storing it elsewhere.

However, there is a need to check the defrost system to see if any of the components have failed. If you are not sure about testing the components yourself, find a qualified refrigerator technician to run the test and replace the defective parts.

If the coils are frozen, they won’t be able to cool the air that circulates inside the unit. As a result, the refrigerator will begin to grow warm.

4. Thermistor

Test the thermistor using a multimeter. As the temperature of the refrigerator changes, its resistance should change, too. But if this does not happen and there is no continuity, replace the thermistor.

The main control board regulates power to the evaporator fan and the compressor based on the results of the refrigerator temperature reading sent by the thermistor.

If the thermistor is defective, the results will be wrong and the board will not be able to regulate power accordingly. Consequently, the refrigerator may become warm due to the fact that the fan and the compressor are not operating as they should.

5. Air Damper Control

Take a look at the air damper, usually between the freezer section and the fresh food section. It should be close and open if it is in proper working condition. But if it is stuck closed, replace it.

This will explain why the refrigerator is warm; the damper closes and opens to regulate the amount of cold air that gets into the refrigerator from the freezer. If it is closed, the refrigerator would have no other way to cool.

If your Samsung refrigerator is too warm and the parts above are working fine, then test the temperature control board and the main control board. While it is unlikely that any of the boards are damaged, it is best to check every component to make doubly sure.

Samsung Ice Maker Too Warm – Quick Fix

Check the evaporator coils behind the freezer’s inside rear wall for frost buildup or ice. Defrost the freezer manually to get rid of all the ice on the coils. This will take some hours so be sure to put any food item from the freezer into another freezer or a well-insulated cooler with ice packs.

The ice is blocking the air tunnel that allows cold air from the freezer to get to the ice maker and freeze it. As a result, the ice maker is not getting cold but warm.

However, if defrosting the ice off the coils does not solve the problem, it is important to contact Samsung to report the ice maker issue and request service.

Alternatively, find an experienced refrigerator technician to troubleshoot the ice maker, find the origin of the problem and fix it.

Recap

If your Samsung refrigerator is too warm, it is important to find a quick fix to prevent loss of food and permanent damage to the unit.

Always unplug the refrigerator before troubleshooting, fixing or replacing any part unless the repair needs electric power to run. In that case, work carefully so as to avoid electrocution.
