Edgestar Wine Cooler Leaking Water – Why and Solution

A major reason your Edgestar wine cooler is leaking water is condensation. Condensation occurs when warm air enters the wine cooler. And then after a while, the warm air would transform into liquid. When condensation is too much in the wine cooler, it will then leak out of any cracks or openings in the cooler.

With that being said, the following are the common ways to stop your Edgestar wine cooler from leaking water:

1. Do Not Open the Cooler too Often

You allow warm air to enter the cooler when you open the cooler too often. This will later result in condensation as already discussed. It may be a difficult practice at first, but with time, you are sure to notice the difference with your unit.

2. Check the Door seal

Another reason warm air is entering the cooler is if the door seal is dirty or worn-out. In either case, the seal will be unable to shut off properly.

Open the wine cooler door and inspect the seal. If it is dirty, clean it with a dishcloth and mild detergent.

If it is worn-out, then the seal has to be replaced. Luckily, doing this is not a complex issue.

How to Replace Edgestar Wine Cooler Door Seal

To replace the door seal of your Edgestar wine cooler, do the following:

Step 1: Open the refrigerator door and use a putty knife or a flat-head screwdriver to pry off the top corner of the door seal.

Step 2: Pull off the already removed top corner to remove the seal completely. Check the track and ensure there is no debris or remnant of the seal on it.

Step 3: Place the new seal on the track, ensure the seal is compatible with your refrigerator. Pin the little plastic dot on each corner of the seal to the refrigerator’s track.

Step 4: Work your way around the track and clip the seal firmly to the track. Double-check your work and ensure the seal does not have any bumps or folds.

3. Inspect the Wine Cooler for Damages

If the seal checks out, then the wine cooler itself may be damaged. Inspect the body of the cooler, look out for even the smallest of cracks as it can be the cause of the leak.

If the cooler has any damage signs, call the unit’s manufacturer to see if any fixes can be done. But, you may most likely need a new unit as repairing damage on the body of the cooler may be challenging.

4. Reinstall the Condensation Tray

The condensation tray may be the problem if you have an Edgestar BWC series model. Most Edgestar BWC series are equipped with a condensation tray that collects condensation that happens in areas with high humidity.

If your unit is new, then the condensation tray may have shaken loose when it was being transported. The solution to this is to uninstall and reinstall the tray. You can do this in the easy steps below:

Step 1: Locate the condensation tray at the back of the unit. It is usually just above the compressor.

Step 2: There is a metal bracket that the tray is clipped into.

Step 3: Adjust the tray so it snaps into place on the bracket.

5. Inspect the Drainpipe

If the problem persists, then the next place to inspect is the drainpipe. The pipe can get clogged and prevent the flow of excessive condensation out of the cooler.

Sometimes, you may require the help of a service technician or a plumber to help fix this problem. But you may do the following to see if you can DIY the problem:

i. Locate the drain pipe and remove it from the wine cooler.

ii. Use a drain cleaning tool or a plumber snake to push out the clog.

iii. Afterward, spray a bit of baking soda down the drain.

iv. Finally, use a turkey baster or syringe to flush about two cups of water down the drain.

v. If water flows through without resistance, then the clog is gone. Reattach the pipe back to the cooler.

If the above does not unclog the drainpipe then it is time to call a professional.

6. Reset the Cooler’s Temperature

If the temperature of the wine cooler is set too high, then it may cause a heavy buildup of condensation. Typically, the temperature of the wine cooler is meant to be between 45-64 degrees Fahrenheit. Anything above this will result in excess condensation.

Use a fridge thermometer to measure the temperature of the cooler and reset it appropriately.

If your Edgestar wine cooler keeps leaking after you try out these solutions, then consider calling a service technician.

Edgestar Ice Maker Leaking Water – What to Check

If your Edgestar ice maker is leaking water, then check the following parts to rectify the problem:

1. Waterline

The water line may be loosely connected hence the ice. To solve this, locate the water connections and secure them as tightly as possible. If the leak continues afterward, then the line may have a tear or crack.

Therefore, inspect the line and replace it if any crack is found on it.

This video will show you how to connect the water line to your Edgestar ice maker

2. The Drain

Your ice maker requires a space between the floor drain and the drain line, this is referred to as an air gap. When anything clogs this air gap (like a dishcloth), water will not properly flow and this will result in the drain overflowing.

To resolve this, look underneath your unit and remove anything clogging the floor drain.

3. Feed Tube

The feed tube is often the problem if the ice maker is leaking from the bottom. It is usually because the tube has become disconnected from the nipple. To resolve this problem, you simply need to reattach the tube to the nipple.

Remove the back access panel of your unit to locate the tube. Grab the tube and push it back on the nipple to stop the leak.

4. Water Inlet Valve

The water inlet valve supplies water to the ice maker. If the valve becomes defective, it may stay stuck open and cause water to spill underneath your unit.

The solution to this problem is to replace the inlet valve. Simply locate the valve behind your appliance, disconnect the water line connected to it. And then remove the screws holding the valve in place.

Get the new valve and install it by connecting the water lines and screwing it back on.

Edgestar Kegerator Leaking – What to Do

If your Edgestar kegerator is leaking CO2, then you have an air leak. The following are the most common reasons your kegerator may develop a leak:

1. Too Tight Clamp

When the clamp around the hose is too tight, it may cut the hose and result in a leak. The solution to this is to cut the worn-out part of the hose off and reconnect the hose. Ensure the clamp is not too tight this time.

2. Tight Fiber Washer

The connection between the C02 tank and the regulator may be the cause of the leak. This happens when the fiber washer used as a gasket at this point is too tight. Check and reconnect the washer accordingly.

3. Loose Pressure Gauge

When the C02 pressure gauge is modified, it may become too loose and result in an air leak. To fix this problem, wrap plumber tape around the pressure gauge before tightening it to the regulator.

4. Worn-out Shank Gasket

If the shank gasket is old and worn-out, it will fail to do its job. If this is the case, get a new gasket and replace the old one.

5. Old Faucet Seals

The faucet seals can fail after a long time of usage. Replace the faucet seal if you suspect it is old and the cause of the leak.

Conclusively, if your Edgestar refrigerator keeps leaking after you try out all these solutions, then call a service technician.
